EXTERIOR LIGHTNING.

The exterior lights consist of;

  • Wing and nacelle floodlights.
  • Forward and aft position lights.
  • Forward and aft strobe lights.
  • Ground floodlights.
  • Anti-collision lights.
  • Logo lights.
  • Nose landing and taxi lights.
The switches to control the exterior lightning are placed on two panels on the glare shield.
The LOGO light switch is placed on the overhead panel.


Lightning panel The panel on the right side with;
GRD FLOOD LTS switches.
Ground flood lights ON/OFF (left and right side).
ANTI COLLISION lights switch.
ON/OFF
POS/STROBE lights switch.
OFF - Forward and aft position lights and strobe lights are off.
POS - Turns on forward and aft position lights only.
BOTH - Turns on the forward and aft position lights and strobe lights. Strobe lights will come on when the nosewheel is off the ground.
WING/NACL FLOOD LTS switch.
OFF - All wing leading edge and engine nacelle floodlights are off.
ON - Both wing leading edge and both engine nacelle floodlights are on.
R ONLY - Right wing leading edge and right engine nacelle floodlights are on. May be used to light up the right side during loading of cargo if no other lights are available.

Lightning panel The panel on the left side with;
WING LDG LTS switches.
RET - Wing landing lights are retracted and off.
EXT OFF - Wing landing lights are extended and off.
EXT ON - Wing landing lights are extended and on.
NOSE LTS switch.
OFF - Nose landing and taxi lights are off.
DIM - Nose landing and taxi lights are dimmed.
BRT - Nose landing and taxi lights are bright.

Ground flood lights
Ground flood lights.
During takeoff normally ON from start of taxi and up to FL100. During approach ON from FL100 and until parking at the gate.
Taxi lights
Nose taxi/landing lights.
ON in DIM after engine start, as a reply to mechanic thumbs up. ON in BRIGHT from start of takeoff roll. OFF after lift off or at 1000ft.
During approach and landing ON in DIM after landing gear extension and BRIGHT (depending on the weather) normally after landing clearance received.
Taxi lights
Forward position light. ON from "prestart checklist" until after parking. During darkness always on.
Ground flood lights
Wing landing lights.
Extended in OFF after engine start together with the taxi lights. BRIGHT from start of takeoff roll. OFF and RET after lift off or at 1000ft.
During approach and landing EXT OFF at speeds below 200kts. EXT ON during final approach, normally after landing clearance received.
